REVIEW:
 4 stars

I really enjoyed reading Amber Sky by Claire Warner. Books that take place in a dystopian or post-apocalyptic settings are my absolute favorite to read, but it's also the hardest for me to love because of that. Amber Sky takes place in a world that is dystopian-like, while also feeling like a steampunk Victorian era. The only problem is that the book didn't feel original as I was reading it - it's like almost every other dystopian book.

The characters weren't exactly my favorite but I did really enjoy getting to see Tay and Darius grown throughout the story. There was a romance subplot that I didn't think took over the story, and I can't wait to see where that goes in further novels.

I would recommend this book, if you are looking for a nice dystopian book, as long as you aren't expecting something that is really unique. It was a good book, and an entertaining read.
About the Author
When I was a child, I made up games and characters when my sister and I played with dolls. As I grew older, I would make up scenarios and scenes, fully intending to write them down but never finding the time. In my late teens, I discovered the world of role playing and settled into an avid ‘geeky’ life of D&D, comics, sci-fi and fantasy fiction. Years passed and I finally gave voice to the stories in my head. I write romance, fantasy, action and adventure. I love tales of steampunk and history, tales of magical powers and dark curses lurking in the shadows. Though The Black Lotus is not my first attempt at a novel, it is the first I have finished.

And some fun facts about me:

I sew.
My favourite Disney film is Atlantis.
I’ve been a film extra and stood 5 feet away from Sam Rockwell.
Babylon 5 is my fave sci-fi show.
I cried at the end of Toy Story 3.

  1. I used to be into dystopian novels, but started to crave more originality, so I'm not sure I'd enjoy this one. That being said, I kind of have a thing for the hate-to-love trope and from the opening line of that synopsis, it sounds like this might fit the bill. Thank you so much for introducing me to so many different novels this month. I've had a great time being your Comment Challenge partner. Hurry up and read Windwitch, so we can discuss it's awesomeness :)
