Synopsis:

The beast raged; it punctured the air with its spite. But the girl was fiercer.

Tea is different from the other witches in her family. Her gift for necromancy makes her a bone witch, who are feared and ostracized in the kingdom. For theirs is a powerful, elemental magic that can reach beyond the boundaries of the living—and of the human.

Great power comes at a price, forcing Tea to leave her homeland to train under the guidance of an older, wiser bone witch. There, Tea puts all of her energy into becoming an asha, learning to control her elemental magic and those beasts who will submit by no other force. And Tea must be strong—stronger than she even believes possible. Because war is brewing in the eight kingdoms, war that will threaten the sovereignty of her homeland…and threaten the very survival of those she loves.

Bone Witch was an amazing story. I thought it was unique and intriguing. This book was a little slow compared to fantasy books, that I read, in general I feel, and a little slow for my normal pace, but I still thought it was absolutely amazing! Even with this slower pace, Rin Chupeco has a way of drawing you into her story and not letting you go. So even though the pacing was slow, I felt like it was a quick read overall.

I loved Tea, who is our bone witch. I just thought she was a really great character. I love the way the story is written out, with the way Bard tells the present events, and Tea tells the past events which lead to the point that Bard is telling.

I loved the diversity in the Bone Witch, there are various cultures, personalities, and beliefs that you get seen throughout this story. I love how the author had a way of showing how this story is easy compared to our world today with issues regarding diversity. This story is really complex and as I stated at the beginning, amazing.

I highly recommend that you read this story! It's has a wonderful plot, great characters, and an exciting world.

Rin Chupeco wrote obscure manuals for complicated computer programs, talked people out of their money at event shows, and did many other terrible things. She now writes about ghosts and fairy tales but is still sometimes mistaken for a revenant. She wrote The Girl from the Well, its sequel, The Suffering, and The Bone Witch, the first book of a new YA Fantasy trilogy. Find her at rinchupeco.com.

Tour + Giveaway and Character Info: Shattered Pack by Aileen Erin

27262881Shattered Pack (Alpha Girl #6)

by Aileen Erin
Genre: YA Paranormal Fantasy
Release Date: March 28th, 2017
Ink Monster Books

Summary:

Meredith Molloney never thought she'd find a mate, let alone someone like Donovan Murry - one of the most powerful Alphas alive. Now that she's no longer cursed and the evil Luciana alvarez has been taken care of, she thinks life will finally settle down. Boy, has she never been so wrong.

In the middle of the night, Donovan gets a call telling him that his pack has gone to pieces. The news that his second in command has been found brutally murdered has Donovan packing his bags for Ireland, but the last thing Meredith wants to do is leave Texas. She’s heard about how the Celtic Pack are with outsiders. And Donovan has more than a few exes in the pack that will be less than friendly.

Meredith’s never let a few angry wolves stop her, and she’s not about to start now. She’s faced down much worse the past few months. But when she gets there, she finds that it’s not just a few exes who stand in the way between her and her Full Moon Ceremony with Donovan.

Meredith is thrust in to a deadly game of pack politics, one the fey have happily joined in on. When the dust settles, she knows she’ll either have everything that she wants or lose it all.

Alpha Unleashed (Alpha Girl #5) on Goodreads

5 Things You Don’t Know About Meredith

  1. Meredith is a member of the American Wayfarer Pack.
The world is divided up among packs, but Meredith’s is different, mostly made up of Cazadores. When big bads start acting up—vampires, feys gone murderous, leprechauns running amuck—they fly in to save the day. That’s why Meredith is a super awesome fighter. She was trained by her herd of brothers—not to mention the rest of her pack—since she could walk.

  1. Meredith’s pack was against her going to St. Ailbe’s Academy.
Annoying as it is, women in the packs don’t have a ton of independence. Especially in the Wayfarer pack. (Don’t worry. Tessa and Meredith are going to change all that. ;) ) There are only a few women in the Wayfarer Pack. Meredith, her mother, and her nanny Ciara. Which is why Meredith wanted to get out so badly. But the Cazadores wanted to protect her. How could they do that if she wasn’t with them? And don’t get them started about Luciana cursing her… That would never have happened with them watching over her. But even with all the craziness, Meredith was glad she left. She made some amazing friends, learned a lot about other supernaturals, and most importantly, she never would have met Donovan if she hadn’t been at St. Ailbe’s. Who could regret that?

  1. Meredith’s nanny, Ciara, is more like her mom than her bio mom.
Meredith and her mother have never seen eye to eye. So, when Ciara sought refuge with the Wayfarers from the Irish Pack, Meredith clung to her. Now that Meredith is going to be joining Donovan’s notoriously cliquish Irish Pack, she’s going to need Ciara more than ever.

  1. For a while, Meredith thought about leaving the packs behind, going to a human college, and getting a job.
Sure, she was cursed to stay in her human for during that time. Since she couldn’t shift, she was basically human anyhow! Why not give it a shot? Seemed like a real chance at freedom from her overpowering pack. And when everything is going crazy, she still things about it. If she were human, what would she be doing? It’s nice to dream.

  1. Meredith is obsessed with reality TV.

Having never been integrated with humans, she finds it unendingly fascinating. Especially Finding Bigfoot. But really, she’ll watch any of it. She also thinks the fact that E! cancelled The Soup to be one of the biggest tragedies of her lifetime so far. When she’s busy at school, she can’t keep up with it all. The Soup was her way to keep up to date with human pop culture in 30 minutes. If anyone can fix this crime against society, she’d been in their debt. And having a Were like Meredith on your side is a very good thing. So, any takers?

Book Sacrifice Tag

So I didn't have anything book tour, blitz, etc. related going up today, and since I haven't really had the time to read (being sick twice within the past month) since I am still catching up on some schoolwork, I decided to find a book tag to do. I typically search youtube, but this time, I stumbled upon this tag on a blog. Here is the blog I looked at Pewter Wolf. This tag is really old, but it looked like fun so I'm doing it!

1) An Over-Hyped book: Let's start this off with a Zombie Apocalypse! Let's say you're in a bookstore, just browsing, when BAM! ZOMBIE ATTACK! An announcement comes over the PA System saying that the military has discovered that the zombies' only weakness is over-hyped books. What book that everyone else says is amazing but you really hated do you start chucking at the zombies knowing that it will count as an over-hyped book and successfully wipe them out?!

I am going to talk about two books here - and I didn't hate them, but they were the lowest rated hyped-up books that I had on my Goodreads account (3 stars for both of them). The first being Forest of Hands and Teeth. When I read this book everyone was telling me about it. I had non-reader friends who would come up and be like "You totally need to read Forest of Hands and Teeth", so I did (and I don't know how popular this was elsewhere because I wasn't as active within the book community at this time), but it was super hyped up for me. The second book is Twilight. Everyone I knew in 8th grade was reading this book (I'm pretty certain every girl had a copy of this book). So I picked it up, and well, I wasn't as into it as everyone else I knew.

2) A Sequel: Let's say you've just left the salon with a SMASHING new haircut and BOOM: Torrential downpour. What sequel are you willing to use as an umbrella to protect yourself?

This answer could totally be stemming from the fact that Twilight was already on my mind, but New Moon (which is also the introduction to me hating love triangles...). Again, this book got 3 stars from me.

3) A Classic: Let's say you're in a lecture and your English teacher is going on and on about how this classic changed the world, how it revolutionized literature and you get so sick of it that you chuck the classic right at his face because you know what? This classic is stupid and it's worth detention just to show everyone how you feel! What Classic did you chuck?

Romeo and Juliet... William Shakespear has an amazing talent for writing, I will not argue that... this story, I will argue that it was stupid. I'm not going to rant about it because I can. I have had long debates with people about why it's a horrible plot, and does not represent love at all. Trust me, I will. If you want to read my somewhat rant, click here. Just remember I wrote this 4 years ago, and just kind of stated my opinion. I was not really reviewing books at this time, but you still get the gist of how I felt.

4) Your least favourite book of life!: Let's say that you're hanging out at the library when BAM global warming explodes and the world outside becomes a frozen wasteland. You're trapped and your only chance for survival is to burn a book. What is the book you first run to, your least favourite book of all life, what book do you not fully regret lighting?

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. I hated it. I didn't really care at all about any of the characters, or the setting, or the plot, or the book at all. I was required to read it for school, but I hated it so much that I skipped the majority of it, and the section that I had to write my review on ( a specific aspect of the story) was the only part I read excluding the very beginning (maybe 2 chapters). I just hated it! I would have no problem burning this book at all. At first, I was going to have this book for problem 3, but it worked out perfectly. I will say, though... that what I did read, I felt like the book has some accurate perceptions considering when it was written - so brownie points to Aldous Huxley for seeing where the future could go - still didn't like the book!

5485

So yes, I really enjoyed this. I don't think there is anything wrong with not liking books other people like. I think it's what makes the book community so wonderful is the differences of tastes, and the different types of books that come out. For me, two of the four were stories that I hate. The other two were just books that I didn't get into as much as everyone around me. Tell me some of your least favorite books in the comments below. I'm not going to officially tag anyone because I wasn't tagged, but if you would like to do this - go for it, and leave your link in the comments below because I would love to see your answers!

Blitz + Giveaway and Excerpt: Supernatural Pet Sitter by Diane Moat

The Supernatural Pet Sitter
Diane Moat
(The Magic Thief, #1)
Publication date: March 5th 2017
Genres: Fantasy, Middle-Grade
Every animal can talk to you. You just have to know how to listen.
Pepper Neely is better at this than most, especially because she is in charge of pet sitting all the familiars in her neighborhood. A familiar is a pet magically linked to a witch or warlock. As a gnome, Pepper is no stranger to spells and sorcery. She also knows that, despite their special name, familiars aren’t all that different from regular animals. They get anxious when separated from their people, so Pepper uses her special gnome powers to calm them down. She watches Cranky the high-strung ferret, Frank the laid-back parrot, King Arthur the elderly tortoise, and many others.
Then, something terrible begins happening to the familiars. Someone is stealing their magic! It not only prevents Pepper from communicating with them but breaks their magical connection with their people. When King Arthur’s magic is stolen, his owner’s powers stop working too. Pepper can sense that the tortoise is very scared.
In order to protect the animal’s magic, Pepper decides to track down the culprit. With the help of her best friend, Luna, and her brother, Jax, Pepper fights to protect all of the special pets.

EXCERPT:
Familiars don’t do well when they are separated from their witches. That was how Pepper got into the business of pet sitting. Gnomes have a low-level connection with all supernatural animals. Gnomes are kind of like the Dog Whisperer, except that they communicate well with Familiars, basilisks (a magical lizard), unicorns and so on, rather than the more usual “pets”.

Pepper’s business of helping witches by taking care of their Familiars had boomed over the past year. Thank goodness she wasn’t sitting for the McCrorys last month when “it” happened.
Mr. McCrory was an accountant and Mrs. McCrory worked part-time at the downtown Dewitt Mall. Their two kids lived away at college. Mrs. M’s Familiar was a huge, bright-green-and-blue parrot named Frank. Pepper had only checked on the parrot once when the McCrorys drove their kids to their out-of-state campus several months earlier. Frank didn’t cause any trouble, so the job was easy money.

Supposedly, Mrs. M was at work one day last month when she had a “bad feeling” that prompted her to go home to check on Frank. The house seemed undisturbed, and everything looked fine at first. But when Mrs. M went to Frank’s cage, she found him looking away from her. He wouldn’t even turn around when she called his name. When she walked around the cage to greet Frank face-to-face, he had only ducked and bobbed his head the way a normal parrot would. But Frank wasn’t normal.
Next, Mrs. M had reached out to the Familiar with her magic, but got no response from him. Not only that, but she said she had trouble focusing, and even her own magic had felt weak. With hands trembling, she had picked up Frank to try again. Nothing. Since that day, Frank’s magic was gone, and Mrs. M’s magic was broken.

Author Bio:
Diane is a Tennessee transplant, animal rescuer, and nurse. Dog Gone is her debut novel, born from years of hearing animal rescuers say about animal abusers, “If only I could get my hands on that person...” Diane is assisted by her many rescue dogs.

Review: Blood Rain by Nancy Gray

31199395Blood Rain by Nancy Gray

The blood wings have attacked once again. The batlike monsters swoop down on treetop villages and suck the blood out of any unfortunates they can find.

Mercy of Mind, a young woman in one such village, is training to be a shaman. Although Mercy’s new healing abilities save a life after the fight, her father, the chieftain, is apathetic. Mercy knows he wishes the blood wings had taken her, instead of her brother, when they attacked one year ago.

But when a storm of blood envelops the village, Mercy’s father gives her an important task. She needs to find out who would dare practice the ancient blood magic. Mercy barely escapes her village’s land with her life. Frenzied blood wings kill her mount and nearly kill her—before two strangers rescue her.

The men, Pyron and Beryl, also want to find the answer to the mystery of the blood rain. Mercy allies herself with the two, but soon realizes they are hiding deadly secrets. She, along with her new companion, Erebus, must get to the bottom of a political conspiracy. In a land of death, destruction, and the darkest magic, whom can she trust?

I love the cover! I really like drawn covers rather than real images, if that makes sense. I also love how the black surrounds the edges of the cover and the lighthouse in the background, and it's just gorgeous!

Review:
I enjoyed this book, mostly because I thought it was just so different and unique from what I have read in the past. It, to me, stands out as a fantasy book. It's the only book that I have ever come across that features batlike monsters - just so different.

I thought the characters were really well written and just so thought out. You can't help but like them, but because they were so well written, they also aren't perfect. I really liked getting to know each of the characters in the story, and cannot wait to see where Nancy Gray takes these characters in the next book.

With that being said, I'm thrilled that there is a second book, and I will definitely try to read that as soon as I am able because I really liked the characters, I really liked the plot, and I really liked Nancy Gray's writing style. If you like fantasy, then you might want to check out this book because it was really good!

Blitz + Excerpts and Teasers: Solace in Silence by Melissa Ann

Title: Solace In Silence
Author: Melissa Ann
Release Date: March 21st

Title: Solace in Silence
Author: Melissa Ann
$0.99

BLURB:

Sometimes in our darkest moments,
When we can't tell the lies from what's true,
When we don’t have the strength to go on,
The love of a friend helps us get through.

Solace in Silence,
Is my personal fight,
Through poetry,
From darkness to light.

Excerpt #1:

One Day

Give me your hand,
I'll help lift you up.
Let me hold you near,
And you can tell me what's up.

You've been hurt in the past,
You have been broken down.
Instead of hating who did this,
You blame yourself, I can see it in your frown.

You hold the world on your shoulders,
Sometimes you wish you didn't feel so much,
But this is the gift you've been given,
And you must accept it as such.

You fight the demons,
Every single day.
Most days you win,
But some days you’re too tired to slay.

If you look
Deep within your soul,
You'll see a light,
Do you see the dim glow?

Just have faith,
In who you are.
And one day,
That light will grow.

So look at how far you have come,
Not how far you need to go.
As long as you keep fighting,
One day you won't feel as low.

Excerpt #2:

We All Have A Purpose

I admit there are days,
I wish I didn’t exist,
When my illness takes over,
And it will not desist.

I’ve learned to live with the challenges.
It can be difficult, I won’t lie,
But it’s the way it affects my family,
That makes me want to cry.

I won’t go very far,
With my children in tow.
What if I get sick,
I’ll have nowhere to go.

I want them to have a great life.
To be able to see all there is to see,
But I feel I’ve taken that away from them.
And that doesn’t sit well with me.

One thing that is positive,
About this life they live.
My children have learned empathy,
And they have lots of love to give.

There’s a reason I’m still here.
I admit the reason was hard to find.
I may not always have the use of my body,
But I still have my mind.

I can create stories,
For others to read.
I can change people’s lives,
And help those in need.

I still have my heart,
I send love every day,
You must never forget you have a purpose,
This is the message, I must convey.
